The Cash Creating Conveyor

By Scott Bailey © 2018

Try everything
Go on!
You know you want to.
And why not?
Get to the end of your life
And say proudly
I did it all!
I did it my way!
I tried it all!
No matter the cost
Ignore the cost
Such a small cost
Dripping away
Over and over
But ignore that
Don’t be square
Be cool!
Be the future
Not the past
Think of the Pleasure!
Ignore the cost
Think of the Achievement!
The dripping cost
Be cool!
Dripping into our funnel
Be a Winner
Dripping into our Hoard

What’s that Noise?

Behind the door?

Was it something moving?

Someone?

Just ignore it. Dive back under the covers, carry on reading…

Thirteen Tales of Ghosts

By Scott Bailey

A collection of short stories concerning ghosts. Some are traditional ghost stories in the tradition of M.R. James and Edgar Allan Poe. Other are not. Some scare, some are fun. Some play with the concept of a ghost. There are ghosts who are out for revenge and the living avenging the spirits that curse them.

Ideal for sitting around a campfire and late at night under the covers. Or maybe not if the stories themselves are any guide.

Check it out on Amazon and Smashwords and other online e-book retailers.

A¬†paperback version¬†is now available for those who prefer the feel of the paper while huddling by the fire ‚Äď on your own ‚Äď in the dark ‚Äď with that noise behind you‚Ķ‚Ķ

The Strangulation of the Great

By Scott Bailey

So I was daydreaming in the bath ‚Äď thinking about a book I read long ago ‚Äď a biography of a famous 19th-century explorer and how he could be seen as representing men as a whole ‚Äď but that‚Äôs a whole other post that will be coming soon.

Anyway ‚Äď in the wandering way of my mind this lead me to thinking about how men have become demonised in the media generally. We are seen as stupid or beasts or slovenly ‚Äď I could go on. But then, I thought women get it just as bad and then there‚Äôs ethnic minorities, the poor, immigrants ‚Äď the list goes on. And on.

Maybe it‚Äôs just rich white people who get off lightly ‚Äď but even as you read this what are you thinking? Of those Etonian brothers who keep their friend rich via nepotism and corruption while sneering at the poor? The rich wives from Chelsea with their lap dogs and expensive handbags and no clue about the real world?

See even they are demonised.

Why?

Who by ¬†‚Äď that‚Äôs an easier question. The media. And we all know that the media is run by those in power. I am no conspiracy theory nut ‚Äď I don‚Äôt believe that there‚Äôs a tightly organised elite pulling the strings. Rather I think it‚Äôs like a self-sustaining system which lifts the people it needs to maintain its stability into positions of power. But whatever the reason ‚Äď the media is the tool of that system.

So again why? Why demonise every single sector of society?

Control. If you cannot be proud of where you came from how can you rise to greatness? Great people can threaten the order of things, they can lead people out of their everyday drudgery and tedium. Out of wage slavery and obedience.

So greatness is stifled. In the modern garden of the world, the land is left to weeds and overgrowth. Anything that rises above the weed line is quickly cut down or sprayed with toxins until it wilts.

In such a barren and ill-tended garden, how can we expect flowers? How can we have anything more than poor harvests?

We should tend our garden better.

Knights

For #JusJoJan Daily Prompt ‚Äď January 28th, 2018

So, again I am coming to this late at night Рthe only time I seem to get to a keyboard these days. We have been out at parks and constructing trampolines in the back garden.

I am annoyed I haven’t had time for this prompt as it’s right up my street. My current work in progress – a collection of epic (by which I mean very long) poems, includes one titled “Will You Follow the Knight”. This is not in a state to be read yet and anyway, will feature in the upcoming collection.

So once again I am reduced to dipping into my “back catalogue” and there is no surprise that I have a few to choose from!

So I won’t choose – here are a few.

Red Steel

By Scott Bailey © 2013

Blood soaked steel
The sword of a knight
Held up proud
Aloft and bright
He hums to himself

“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given, and the government
shall be upon His shoulder; and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,
the Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace‚ÄĚ

With banshee scream
He storms on down
To hammer home peace.

Bricks

by Scott Bailey © 2013

Coloured bricks
Red, blue, yellow, white
and many more.

Many shapes
Many sizes
No limits
Many surprises.

Build a fire engine,
A house, a school,
A lake, a park, a city, a town.
A space station and spaceships and an alien host.
A castle,a bridge a knight and a ghost!

All this and more build it all
And never ever build up your wall.

Sky Fight

By Scott Bailey © 2014

Flash in the dark blue sky
Clash of sword and bone
Roar of fire high above
Heaven’s thunderous tone

Samurai meets his nemesis
A dragon of the sky
Golden claw fights silver blade
Above the mountains high

Gods look down with fearful frowns
While people gaze above
Do they fear the fiery jaws
Or the hardened iron glove

The enduring will of the flying knight
Feeds his skilful blade
The ancient wisdom of the drake
Ensures he’ll not be played

Red streaks of fire on velvet sky
Silver streaks cut through
Showers of sparks come raining down
To birth a magic brew

And still the battle blunders on
All over every land
Until the both when both are stilled
By a cold and magic hand

It’s not just me – it run’s in the family. Here’s our oldest (from a few years ago) playing knights with some real ones!

Fear

We have a love/hate relationship with it.

We do not want to be afraid. We want safety and comfort.

Or do we?

Underneath, secretly we crave it. The thrill of fear, the arousal of danger.

So turn off the lights. Open the pages and delve in.

Find the thrill in the words.

Movement

For The Friday Reminder for #SoCS & #JusJoJan Daily Prompt, Jan. 27th, 2018

By Scott Bailey © 2018

There is a rising tide
It swells and grows
The recedes
Pauses and grows again
Lapping against the ancient
Castle
The stronghold
Of power
From long ago
Where gold grows
Around the feet
Of the rulers
Seemingly futile
The tide rises
Ebbs and swells
Eating away
Tiny piece by piece
Until one day
The stronghold will fall

Inscrutable – the Pension Rip Off

By Scott Bailey © 2018

Image from Pixabay

There’s an advert running at present (in the UK) for pensions. It shows two of the same person working Рwith the tagline that having a workplace pension is like having another you working for your future.

If only. Recent history would suggest otherwise. With so many company pensions disappearing into black holes while inscrutable business owners get away with all the cash stashed away in their offshore accounts – you have to stop and question it.

Sure you have to prepare for your future – but it seems like a massive risk. When I started working we paid towards a state pension. But then the government privatised it all – handing it over to the free market. Their argument being that they would not be able to afford to pay out a pension in the future if they did not.

Which begs more questions. Why not Рare the government that bad at managing finances? If it’s such a loss-making venture then why the hell would any business take it on?

They just keep inventing ways to screw us out of money. So the image of two of you working is accurate in one way. They can screw you doubly while you work.

Dip Into Something New

Slip away for a few hours, into other worlds – away from all the troubles of this one.

Perhaps into the future Рa near future Рdark and disturbing and yet Рso close. There follow the fates of four people worn down and broken Рor angry with the system. Who break out of it and try to break it. Who question why they did and falter in their resolve only to be thrown back into the fray to discover the truth within themselves. A tale that questions rebellion and its motivations while railing at the oppression around us. Try it.

Mankind Limited

Or if not the future – the other worlds – supernatural ones – that impinge onto ours from – where? Some other dimension? The afterlife? Our own minds?

Where ever they come from – try these Thirteen Tales of the Ghostly variety.

Thirteen Tales of Ghosts

Or forget them all and take a moment each day  Рto read a little poetry and think. Three hundred and sixty-five poems in all shapes and sizes sprung from dreams and emotion. Published day after day for a year. There are haiku, sonnets, katauta, lanturnes and many other forms Рincluding free form. The moods are as varied as the forms and often reflect my mood on the day. There is sadness and grief, joy and love.

A Spring of Dreams

Revision

Swirling in the mists of history
Mystic figures whirl
Dark silhouettes of dangerous men
Stride along with pride.

A flash of a sword, the chord of a song
the clash of a shield, the beat of a drum.
The roar of a fire in a welcome hearth.
The hearty sound of the comrades’ laugh.

The scent of a feast, the warmth of the soup.
The strength of the beams over the hall
The smoke rising up into the straw
All of this and still there’s more.

A cold wind blows, the mist rolls back,
To show the cold hard facts.

Sonnet for our Times

For JusJoJan 18th Revolt

By Scott Bailey © 2013

So it seems to me that beyond the news
Beyond the web of the media spin
There are places still where the only views
Are battlegrounds full of unearthly din

I see the most pious places burning
Where the holy words still hold high accord
Where simple souls for peace are still yearning
The peace that those holy words won’t afford

Yet here where reason and science abound
We live comfy lives secure in our ways
No bombs rain down on our manicured ground
There is no revolt, no passion ablaze

There’s something wrong with this picture I see
Is it really this way, can you tell me?

For JusJoJan 22nd Liberty

By Scott Bailey © 2014

Keys can lock and jangle
Hold us safe and secure
Take away liberty or open up the doors
And the doors they can open….
Silver is the primary key
That opens up our home
We do have gold but it is worn
From use and years and time
Some keys are rows of black and white
And open up our hearts
With wondrous weaving melodies
Soaring sounds from worlds apart
But the keys that give me magic
And warm my ailing heart
Dance beneath my fingertips
As dreams flow from my art

The Accidental Occidental

For JusJoJan 20th SocS (oc)

A word that starts¬†with “oc”. For some reason – occidental immediately sprung to mind. Followed by this random nonsense.

By Scott Bailey © 2018

His mother was a missionary
Who succumbed to forbidden love
She was abandoned and so was he
An orphaned sickly dove

He was always seen as different
Never quite the same
Always outside the circle
Never in the game

With no one to rely on
He learned to keep himself
Learned to get what he needed
Leave nothing on the shelf

He could play the needs of others
Like a bard could play a harp
To get where he was going
His will was cold and sharp

He grew to be a king
Of an unseen empire wide
And nothing could fill the void
That swelled and grew inside

So he used he unrivalled power
To bring down all around
To reduce the home he hated
To debris on the ground

The occidental accident
Happens all time time
So watch out for rising emperors
Who play their tunes sublime

Where The Red Fox Roams

For JusJoJan 4th Passionate

A bit of a cheat РI am catching up after being brought down with flu!

The timid beasties scatter
With tiny racing hearts
The scent of blood approaches
The herd all ways it parts
For here
The red fox roams

The scent of fear it rises
And fans the fox’s fire
Into enslaving passion
To raise the killer higher
Thus
The red fox roams

Filled with hate and ire of
Where the white wolves dance
The dance the fox desires
Denied its golden chance
Everywhere
The red fox roams

The world has grown accustomed
To fear of tooth and claw
The world has grown so weary
Of lives lived short and raw
Still
The red fox roams

The timid beasties scatter
Will never make a stand
They’ll not accept the secret
To gain the upper hand
So proud
The red fox roams

No one knows the course
Where the fox’s road is heading
All they see is darkness
The cast of all the spreading
Death
Where the red fox roams

Drama

So, I have already broken my “resolution” to dial back on the blogging – as I discovered this set of prompts for January – #JusJoJan – 2018. So I thought they would be interesting to have a go at.

So the first is drama. I have had my fill of drama this year (Last year now!) so I thought I would take a look at the bigger world view with this one.

Drama

By Scott Bailey © 2018

Beneath all the drama
All the bluster and the mustering of arms
The blows and the hot hot wind
The shouts and screams
The glory and the tragedy
The dreams and the hopes
Through every act and movement
Every entrance and exit grand and small
After every curtain call and echo of applause
Do not overlook the fact that
Children died
Brothers and sisters remember
