Poem a day challenge #286 (Cutting)

Cutting

By Scott Bailey © 2014

Consuming and not creating
Planning and not making
Thinking without doing
This is the path they took
Into the undergrowth of
Tape and law and greed
So now in panic
They are fighting their way out
Cutting, cutting, cutting.

Poem a day challenge #275 (Recovery)

Recovery

By Scott Bailey © 2014

The country’s getting richer
on the shoulders of the poor
The economy is booming
but blood stains mar the floor
A thrifty generation
careful with what they earned
Now watch it all dissipate
belying what they learned
For they are forced by empathy
to shore up their progeny
Or watch them being bled
by powerful gluttony
By vampires way up high
in lofty towers sleek
Deaf to pleas of mercy
They cannot hear us speak
And with contempt the vampires
farm their herds with glee
Until we have no more to give
And they’ll see the fallacy

Poem a day challenge #272 (Cold Winds Blow)

Cold Winds Blow

By Scott Bailey © 2014

So it grows
The discontent
Of fiscal winter
Even sceptics grumble
But will it tip
Will we finally
Drop our stiff letters
And stiff upper lips
And revolt?
Or sip a cup of tea
Settle back
And vote for the best singer/dancer/skater
Instead
