Clouds

Sunlight streams through clouds
Warm, cascading waterfalls
Dispelled by a breeze

Starlight

I was born in fire
In the fiercest whitest heart
I was flung in dying throes
Out into the dark

And through the dark I travelled
Over time you cannot dream
You cannot comprehend
The scales of things I’ve seen

The birth of stars from dust
From cold to burning fire
And then to bloated giants
And back to dust again

The start that swirl together
In hordes you will never count
Swallowed into nothing
Never to get out

Bright white young ones burning
Fast and bright and blue
Until they burst with energy
Too bright for me and you

And clouds like angels wings
Or swirling demons eyes
And flighty comets dying
With sparkling icy cries

All this and much much more
I cannot tell you all
Many many of your lives
Would pass before my tale

But now my time is dwindling
Now my tale must die
I have reached my end
I have reached your eye

Blue

Heart beneath blue skies
Bluer than the deep blue sea
Rage into the stars

Poem a day challenge #334 (Lights)

Lights

By Scott Bailey © 2014

Swirling up into the night
Like some lonely northern light
Not north but here it did appear
Why am I not filled with fear
A spiral of blue and green
Wispy tendrils barely seen
Twisting up and further still
I watch it rise with mounting thrill
Into the stars I watch it go
And then alone the heavens know

Poem a day challenge #159 (Around and Around)

Around and Around

By Scott Bailey © 2013

Electron around and around an atom’s core
Atoms around and around each other
Mass around mass and air around rock
Rock around and around rock
Moon around and around earth
Earth around and around Sun
A billion suns around galactic core
Spiralling into the dark
A billion galaxies dance their endless dance
Around and around and around

I stand still

Poem a day challenge #130 (Formation)

Formation

By Scott Bailey © 2013

A single mote
of stardust
sparkles bright
in endless black
drifting
No goal,
no direction
for time
that feels
eternity
Nothing
Cold, cold
Nothing

And then
Attracted to another
Bright shining mote
Joined together
Bound in twisting dance
round and round
and down
What seems forever
togetherness
never apart
again

The other comes
with more attachments
gathering around
A family, a clan
a get together that has no end
a bouncy, rowdy party
as things heat up

And the happening attracts more
and the numbers swell
the dances speed and the steps
multiply with complexity
The place is hotting up
as events coalesce

Then the point of no return
This is the place to be
the single mote has pulled
more that could be dreamed
and the crowds rush in and in
and down
the crowds become a crush
And the heat gives rise to new forms of dance
and new energy as the crowds arise

And then the circle is complete
as the fire starts to burn and the lonely mote
is now the heart
of brand new burning star

Swirling, whirling milky clouds of stars
Spiralling down to the black hole
Supermassive hungry dark
Swallowing all it can

Poem a day challenge #51 (Dreams in the Universe )

Dreams in the Universe

By Scott Bailey © 2013

Motes of dust
So we have been described
Floating in the vastness of time and space
Small, inconsequential.
Dust motes made of dust from ancient dead stars.
Yet.
So far.
Amongst all we see,
the starfields of diamond dust,
the ancient piercing light,
the glowing, magical, wispy nebulae,
the rainbow rings of Saturn,
the storms of Jupiter,
the blinding light of supernova,
the singular dark of black hole,
world after world
galaxy after galaxy.
Nowhere have we found
yet
Anything that compares
to the complexity, the wonder, the intricacy,
the magic
of
the thoughts of you and I
