Big Brother is Dead

George Orwell’s

1984

Showed us the nightmare vision of socialism gone to extremes

It didn’t come to pass.

Instead – we welcomed in something far more insidious.

Capitalism unmarked.

Soon
They will realise
That their spin
Their media hype
Is failing
Now
One has come
To threaten
Their way of life
Not ours
As the spin machines spews
But theirs
Their way of life
Of easy deception and greed
Of spinning tales of woe
Cutting and taxing
While smirking with contempt
And lining their pockets
With our aid
Let’s see
What happens
When they realise
The spin
No longer works

Politicians

Peter, Paul and Joe.

By Scott Bailey © 2024

Peter:

So I had this idea. Let’s end the scum off! Send them to the hellish places of our darkest memories and guilt.

Paul:

Well, you know I am going to have to fight you on that one! Can’t turn away from that!

Peter:

It will cost hundreds of millions to stop us!

Paul:

That’s OK, Joe will pay.

Later

Paul:

So, I think you have reached the end. We fought for a long time but your time is over, the end of what you can do has been reached.

Peter:

So it seems. So your promise?

Paul:

Of course! You drove billions into our pockets. Come and join us  – time to have your cut!

A Dark Future Vision – Or is it Already Here

This book shows the how society could evolve if capitalism were allowed to follow through to its extremes. It’s a dark shadow of this world. Or is it? Is this the world that we already live in?

Enter a world of pressure and release – rebellion and doubt and the rediscovery of a simple Secret the rulers of the world would rather you not know.

Mankind Limited

Mankind Limited

Marc trudged on with life, marching in line with his fellow workers. Weighed down by the everyday burdens of life, the pressure to conform, to succeed or face destitution.

Yet he knew, in his heart that it was all wrong, the questions squirmed like fiery dragons in the pit of his heart, beneath his deepest darkest doubts.

Until they grew and burst his sanity, set him on a path of defiance and rebellion. A path that would cross three others – all like him seeking answers.

A path of danger and adventure that would see him marked as a terrorist and fleeing for his life. It would see him find love and heartbreak, hope and despair, Most of all, it would open his eye to the possibility of an ancient and powerful secret that might answer all his doubts and fears.

If he survived.

Trapped. In a world where everything is measured and control pervades every area of life, four people begin to break down. Instead, they break through the walls of deceit and propaganda and into a world of revolution.

Each, in their way, vows to overthrow the established order. They embark on a journey against the forces arraigned against them, forces of state and self-doubt.

Ultimately their paths converge on a dangerous road and the discovery of an ancient secret.

One one level this is a story about how different people react the ever growing and relentless pressure of everyday oppression. It explores their journeys as they are broken and rebuilt and investigates their modes and motivations for rebelling.

At another level, it is a critique on the darker side of capitalism and free markets and how that has driven us further and further away from the evolutionary advantage that gave us supremacy in the first place. It questions whether the human race has doomed itself or whether we still have the capacity to wrench ourselves from the track we have so tightly committed our society upon.

My dark dystopian vision is starting to look like a brighter alternative!

Humanity reduced to a bottom line.

The New God

By Scott Bailey © 2018

There was
This civilisation
That worshipped
A God
A new God
Not a water god
Nor a sun god
Not a god of the earth at all
But like all gods
Before
This one promised
Safety and security
In return
For absolute
Fealty
When times were hard
Lives were demanded
And lives were given
Though tears were shed
It was accepted
And the God was given a name
To ease the pain
And make the people
Forget
They were enslaved
Made them think
They were a part
Of something bigger
They called this new God
The Economy

Seemed appropriate for today – after all keeping the schools open demonstrate’s exactly this thinking.

No Longer Fit for Purpose!

So, if the MPs who voted against the deal now vote for the same deal because the PM will resign if they do then doesn’t that just show they were never voting on the merits of the deal in the first place, just for their own selfish ambitions. Once again MPS playing games with our lives for their own gains.

It’s about time we said that the whole political system is no longer fit for purpose. Let’s start a new hashtag to let them know!

Dancing Disaster

So this is a direct quote from Theresa May’s speech at the Tory Conference.

Leaving without a deal – introducing tariffs and costly checks at the border – would be a bad outcome for the UK and the EU.

It would be tough at first, but the resilience and ingenuity of the British people would see us through.

Was that supposed to be inspiring somehow? All I got from that as is this.

Doesn’t matter how bady we fuck it up – doesn’t affect us. You poor sods can bear the brunt of it.

Again

She is literally dancing on the graves of her victims.

Guest Poem – Mankind Limited

I was surprised to get a message from a friend and colleague – a rap poem – inspired by my novel Mankind Limited.

I thought I would share it here;

Also, check out their music on their own site https://urbanhippies.bandcamp.com/.

Here is the poem.

Mankind Ltd

By J McKay

Where the kindness of man is limited
Capitalist cooperation that will see your dreams diminished

I see humans but no humanity
Just vanity
Losing my sanity
People escaping to virtual reality
Because reality
Is is now a dark place
Lives taken because of their race
Deals done with a cash filled suitcase
Suit and tie
Led by
The pied piper
on a never ending Rat race

Mankind LTD
Where the kindness of man is limited
Capitalist cooperation that will see your dreams diminished

Whats wrong with the world Mumma?
Rehiring the war drummer
Reigniting feuds with a different Color
Future hasn’t looked glummer
Worlds heating up like an Indian summer
Enough money to fight, nothing done about world hunger
So I wonder
Is the war drummer
Just An opportunity to showcase the chopper gunner
To damage infrastructure,
To take lives from a culture
Take fathers from youngsters
Circling above like vultures
Targets are hidden deep under
bombs are nothing but a stain on a water color

Mankind LTD
Where the kindness of man is limited
Capitalist cooperation that will see your dreams diminished

Sensationalised snippets
Bunch of hypocrites
With a hidden agenda to make your opinions fit
Emotional counterfeit
Drink down the whole truth, don’t just sip it
Don’t read a headline and then just skip it
Hounding hashtags like a whippet
Tweet tweet
But you ain’t no pipit
Reference to a bird incase you didn’t get it
Daily disposable media, how you gonna fill it?
Click bait
To get those click through rates
Hooked on a headline
Served up on a plate

Mankind LTD
Where the kindness of man is limited
Capitalist cooperation that will see your dreams diminished

At war with Nature
Where is this the legislator
It’s not out governments, there just a manipulator
Facilitators
For the rape of our lands by dictators
Hard to be inhalators
Of these demonstrators
Because trees are our main respirators
Think there an accelerator
For improving nature
But there blinded by a broken alternator

Mankind LTD
Where the kindness of man is limited
Capitalist cooperation that will see your dreams diminished

Uncomfortable evidence

Big Man, Pig Man

Now I don’t normally like negative politics stuff – but. I was listening to my songs on shuffle the other day and a classic Pink Floyd one came up.

Now – don’t these lyrics and image just belong to each other?

David-Cameron-pig-350573

Big man, pig man, ha ha, charade you are

You well-heeled big wheel, ha ha, charade you are

And when your hand is on your heart

You’re nearly a good laugh

Almost a joker

With your head down in the pig bin

Saying “keep on digging”

Pig stain on your fat chin

What do you hope to find?

When you’re down in the pig mine

You’re nearly a laugh

You’re nearly a laugh

But you’re really a cry.

One Thousand

By Scott Bailey © 2015

One thousand obstacles

In between

Me

And what I want to be doing

One thousand  problems

In between

Me

And who I want to be

One thousand sorrows

In between

The world we have

And peace

One Thousand

The presence of cages does not reassure
Just confirms that there’s danger inside
So the rules on expenses just confirms the fear
That the vultures are circling once more

Poem a day challenge #315 (Secret Laughter)

Secret Laughter

By Scott Bailey © 2014

One Cara Pilkington-Smythe
A dancer once young and lithe
Left the stage behind one day
Decided on a new way
Married an Oxford star
Together they went far
He conquered financial seas
She blew in like a breeze
To the corridors of power
A bee drawn to a flower
Sipping the nectar sweet
The world was at her feet
They had all they desired
No contingency required
Beautiful homes in beautiful vales
For them, their parents, easy sale
Perfect schooling for their son
Their family secure, every one.
Parties, holidays, swelling banks
Clever accountants give them thanks
Hide away the tax they’d lose
Living how and where they choose
But then the rain started falling
When the scandal came a calling
The houses paid for with expenses
Squirreled out from the benches
Made up claims and other tricks
The media brings names and sticks
Now their lives are not the same
Now they now live with the shame
With their reputation now bereft
It would seem nothing’s left
Except the houses and the wealth
And fine wine to toast their health
And education to ensure
The offspring’s path will be pure
And the network of protecting hands
And the ever-growing lands
And the secret contemptuous laugh
That may be their epitaph

Poem a day challenge #143 (Words)

Words

By Scott Bailey © 2013

Master of words
By words mastered
Many a politician can claim
Those that abuse the power
By which they rose
Will be bitten by the beast they tamed

Such is the reality
We choose to believe
But the truth we know is worse
Where corruption rules
It protects its own
Mostly, the corrupt rule

Poem a Day Challenge #21 (Taxing)

Taxing

By Scott Bailey © 2013

They didn’t know.
Or didn’t care.
That corporate giants
Weren’t paying their share.

If they didn’t know.
Incompetence screams.
If they didn’t care
Corruption streams.

Next month. Something else.
To make us all forget.
How many times do we take this?
Is their more give in us yet?
